Released in October 2009, the LG GW300 Blue offers a decent range of features with an affordable price tag. With similar styling to many Blackberry models, the handset offers a full QWERTY keyboard, digital camera and internet access. It is now available in an attractive blue colour variant.
The GW300 measures 115.5x61x12.8mm and weighs in at just 95g making it lightweight and relatively slim so is a comfortable handset to hold and use. The 2.4 inch TFT screen is capable of displaying up to 256,000 colours at 320x240 pixels ensuring depth and clarity of on screen images. As mentioned, a full QWERTY keyboard is utilized for efficient text input.
Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages by vibration and ringing with the option to download polyphonic ringtones and assign MP3 music files as ringtones. A speakerphone is built in allowing hands free communication. A 3.5mm audio jack can accommodate hands free kits as well as headphones for listening to music.
Internal memory in the GW300 is 15 MB as standard; however this can be expanded to 16 GB simply by installing a larger memory card in the microSD slot. This would allow plenty of storage for media files and other data. With the capability to store up to 1000 contacts, the phonebook also includes the photo call feature. This is where a photo is assigned to a contact in the phonebook, and this is then displayed every time this person is in contact.
The GW300 makes use of class 12 versions of GPRS and EDGE as its primary means of connectivity. Bluetooth version 2.1 is installed as standard allowing direct transfer of files and data with other Bluetooth compatible handsets.
The phone is also equipped with a built in digital camera boasting 2 MP. This operates at a pixel resolution of 1600x1200 providing photos of a reasonably good quality. It also has the ability to shoot video as an alternative to taking still images. The useful media player can play a range of music file formats. Additional entertainment features include an in built FM radio and a range of games.
A handy organizer is included in the list of extra applications, as is a voice memo recorder and T9 predictive text input.
The GW300 is available in Black, Red and Blue colours. It is an aesthetically pleasing handset. As mentioned it bares several visual similarities to several Blackberry models. The overall appearance suggests the LG GW300 is an efficient handset rather than a fashion statement, yet contains a reasonable selection of useful features.
